Sungai Kabul Odour Pollution: Air Selangor Ensures Stable Water Supply
With reference to the official statement by the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) regarding the odour pollution incident detected at Sungai Kabul, Semenyih on 19 February 2026, Air Selangor has taken note of the incident and has collaborated with LUAS and the relevant agencies to coordinate immediate monitoring actions at the affected location.
Based on findings from on-site monitoring, Air Selangor has taken proactive measures by mobilising our team to assist with clean-up works in the affected area. Several suction tankers were deployed to the contaminated site, in addition to placing oil pads and oil booms at the location for control and clean-up purposes. These actions were undertaken as part of Air Selangor’s support and assistance to LUAS and the Selangor State Government, while further intensifying raw water quality monitoring to ensure water treatment plant operations remain stable and under control.
As an additional mitigation measure, the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme (SJAM) initiative and water supply diversion were activated to ensure system stability. As a result of the swift action and integrated cooperation, no water supply disruptions to consumers were reported.
Adam Saffian Ghazali, Chief Executive Officer of Air Selangor, said, “Air Selangor remains steadfast in ensuring water supply security for consumers. I would like to record my appreciation for the strong commitment and dedication of our team, who acted swiftly on-ground in supporting control and clean-up efforts. Our priority is to ensure the stability of water treatment plant operations and the continuous delivery of treated, clean, and safe water to our 9.62 million consumers.”
Air Selangor will continue to work closely with LUAS and monitor developments from time to time to ensure the continued supply of clean and safe treated water to consumers.
