Leveraging LiDAR and GIS: Air Selangor Launches Innovative Slope Management System to Safeguard Critical Assets
Air Selangor has become Malaysia’s first water utility company to introduce a web-based Slope Management System, setting a new benchmark in proactive asset protection and infrastructure sustainability.
Initiated in May 2025, the project involved evaluating 147 engineered and natural slopes across 28 key Air Selangor facilities in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. These included critical assets such as water treatment plants, dams, reservoirs, pumping stations, balancing ponds and service roads.
The web-based system enables slope inventory tracking, regular inspections, risk assessments and asset monitoring to be carried out systematically using accurate data. By leveraging technologies such as Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and Geographic Information System (GIS), potential risks can be identified earlier, allowing mitigation measures to be executed more swiftly.
The Air Selangor Slope Management System was officiated by Air Selangor Chief Executive Officer, Adam Saffian Ghazali. The launch of this innovative system reaffirms Air Selangor’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring a safe, sustainable water supply for 9.62 million consumers across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
