Supporting the AI and Data Centre Boom: Air Selangor’s Strategic Approach to Global Water Sustainability
We were honoured to represent Malaysia on the global stage as our CEO, Adam Saffian Ghazali, participated as a panelist in the session “Watering the New Economy” at the Global Water Summit 2026.
Alongside other industry leaders from Jacobs, Intel, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Xylem, Tucson Water, and the Water Environment Federation, the discussion focused on how water utilities, industries, and tech players must collaborate to support the rapid growth of AI, semiconductors, and data centres.
As the digital economy accelerates, the demand on water and energy infrastructure grows. During the panel, Adam emphasised Air Selangor’s strategic focus on:
• Long-term planning: Maintaining healthy reserve margins to secure water availability.
• Operational efficiency: Reducing non-revenue water and optimising our network.
• Circular economy: Expanding water reclamation and reuse initiatives.
• Collaborative models: Building strong partnerships between utilities and industries.
• Economic viability: Ensuring sustainability solutions remain affordable for all stakeholders.
The session highlighted that the challenge ahead is not purely technological; strong governance, transparency, community trust, and cross-sector collaboration will ultimately determine whether societies can sustainably support the “New Economy.” Our appreciation goes out to the organisers, fellow panelists, and participants for an insightful exchange as we collectively shape a more resilient and sustainable future for water.
